DALLAS - Convenient store chain 7-Eleven Inc. (NYSE:SE) and telecommunications firm Verizon Communications Inc. are teaming up to provide products and services to 7-Eleven's Vcom financial kiosks. The two companies announced a five-year strategic alliance on Oct. 31.
Under the agreement, Vcom users will be able to order long-distance services, pay phone bills, and make changes to their existing Verizon phone accounts. Verizon will be the exclusive distributor of certain telecommunications products and services offered at Vcom kiosks.
"Many of our products and services are designed for consumers with busy, on-the-go lifestyles, so this is a perfect way to serve consumers where they shop," Bruce Gordon, Verizon retail markets group president, said in a news release.
Verizon joins American Express, Western Union and Certegy in providing services for the Vcom kiosk line. The kiosks offer check cashing, ATM functions and money-order purchasing.
Currently, 94 kiosks are being tested at 7-Eleven stores in Florida and Texas. The company hopes to deploy the program nationally next year.
