Vending machines deliver books to Detroit children

June 29, 2016

Detroit residents can now pick up free books without visiting a library. Airline operator JetBlue is rolling out vending machines in the city that dispense free books, according to a report by Click On Detroit.

The kiosks are part of the JetBlue "Soar with Reading" program, which aims to provide age-appropriate books to Detroit schoolchildren. Detroit Tigers Outfielder Justin Upton and "Zoey 101" actress Victoria Justice recently unveiled the kiosks and read to children at the Matrix Center, headquarters of Matrix Human Services.

JetBlue has deployed five kiosks around Detroit. Users can dispense as many books as they wish, according to the report.
