UTEP Centennial Museum is updating its gallery with three interactive kiosks
June 27, 2010
The UTEP Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso plans to introduce three gallery interactive kiosks, according toistockananalyst.com.
The museum has already implemented the Active Earth interactive kiosk, which is part of Geology professor Bridget Smith-Konter's ongoing research of the San Andreas Fault in California. The kiosk gives users a glimpse of the world's recent earthquake activity, and information on other global phenomena such as tsunamis and volcanoes.
Another interactive kiosk is scheduled to be installed in the geology department lobby, and a third kiosk is planned for Hueco Tanks State Park. Smith-Kontor said she plans to develop a mobile kiosk that can be taken to school and science exhibitions.
"Interactive real-time earthquake data is integrated with fundamental concepts from geology and physics with features like games, virtual tours, and animations made for the general public and scientists alike," Houser said. "The Active Earth kiosk will soon include custom-made modules that will acquaint users with dynamic geologic environments like the Rio Grande Rift and the San Andreas Fault in both English and Spanish."
