University of Salford Library deploys digital catalog kiosks

August 19, 2016

The University of Salford Library in Salford, England, has deployed digital catalog kiosks. The Expo 10 iPad enclosures were manufactured by imageholders and are designed to enclose the Apple iPad Air 2, according to a press release.

The library mounted the enclosures on pillars in the book stacks. Patrons can use the kiosk to search for resources and books . In addition, imageholders worked with the library to craft branding around the kiosk in the shape of a word bubble with several search terms related to courses and subjects, according to the press release.

"It was a pleasure to work with Salford University Library. They had a lot of creative direction when it came to the branding, and this was a task our design team happily took on. The Expo 10 wall mounted iPad kiosk is a fantastic solution for Universities as the enclosure can be branded and different bezel shapes used to convey the purpose of the enclosure," Peter Thompson, director of imageholders, said in the release. "The speech bubble bezel is one of our most popular and it’s engaging design helps to draw attention to the enclosure and encourage users to engage with the tablet.

The Expo 10 kiosk is designed to tilt or rotate to accommodate the user's perspective. The enclosure can accommodate any iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Google Nexus or Microsoft Surface tablet, according to the release.
