UK libraries take to self-service kiosks

October 14, 2010

The library system in Plymouth, England, has installed self-service kiosks with which patrons can check out and return books, CDs and DVDs without help from a librarian, according to This is Plymouth.

Visitors to the Central Library and those in Crownhill, Plympton, Plymstock, Southway and St. Budeaux will be able to borrow, return and renew items, view items already on loan, see what fines they face and when reserved items are ready for collection.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Stockport library system near Manchester in the UK had installed kiosks in 11 libraries, "Library kiosks with RFID offer self-serve for Mancunians."
