The city of Nottingham, U.K., has begun replacing pay phones with Wi-Fi kiosks called InLinks that offer free phone calls and mobile charging ports as part of a joint venture between the city and BT, according to the Nottingham Post.
The InLinks include encrypted Wi-Fi, which protects personal information when connected on compatible devices, along with interactive maps, an emergency call button and the option to add air quality monitors to enable local governments to enact clean air strategies, a BT spokesperson said.
The kiosks also provide free screen time for community initiatives and are funded by advertising revenue, the spokesperson said.
