Tower Records to pilot self-service kiosk

June 9, 2002

ATLANTA -- International music retailer Tower Records is piloting a self-service Music Discovery Center kiosk from NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR) and Savage Beast Technologies.

The kiosk, designed to help customers navigate Tower's music catalog, is deployed in three stores - New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, according to an NCR news release.

The kiosk uses navigation and recommendation software from Savage Beast and runs on the NCR EasyPoint kiosk platform, according to the release. An interactive touchscreen kiosk guides shoppers through Tower's online music catalog; customers can preview song clips of more than 250,000 CDs.

Unlike traditional listening stations, which let customers preview songs on a particular CD, the self-service kiosks can search music based on artist, song or CD title. They also make recommendations based on the music the customer is browsing, according to the release.
