Touchscreen kiosks automate Australian offender reporting

March 25, 2014

Queensland, Australia, is set to install parole reporting kiosks from Sydney-based Argus Global in all its community monitoring offices and selected police stations, according to the Biometrics Institute.

The Queensland Corrective Services plans to install the touchscreen, self-service, biometric kiosks during 2014. The kiosks will be based on the Argus Smart Kiosk solution and use the company's Biometric Offender Reporting Information System platform.

B.O.R.I.S. automates manual reporting procedures and allows parolees to present themselves without the attendance of an officer. The platform is an extension of the suite of products found in Argus' flagship product, True Identity.

B.O.R.I.S. interfaces with the Australian Department of Justice's offender information management system, Argus said.

Smart Kiosk can integrate with a range of biometric technologies including an iris camera, a fingerprint reader, face- or voice-recognition software, or a combination of any of these biometric devices, Argus said. Argus' kiosks can be customized to fit in with the environment it will be operating in, according to the company.
