MEXICO CITY - Todito.com S.A. de C.V., an Internet portal and marketplace for North American Spanish speakers, and Grupo Elektra S.A. de C.V. (NYSE: EKT) (BMV:ELEKTRA), a Latin American retailer and consumer finance company, are expanding Todito-branded Internet kiosks to 450 Elektra stores located throughout Mexico.
The Todito-branded kiosks sell computers and Todito's Internet connection service. Qualified Elektra customers may purchase the computer and Internet packages through Elektra's credit program.
Tim Parsa, Todito.com's chief executive officer, said that Todito and Elektra were bringing the Internet to the average Mexican family, resulting in increased computer sales and revenue for Elektra and more loyal Internet users for Todito.
In May 2000, the two companies signed a five-year agreement. Adding Todito-branded kiosks to Elektra stores is part of that plan, which also covers on-line promotion and e-commerce support.
Javier Sarro, Elektra's chief executive officer, said that Todito and Elektra will play a key role in expanding Internet use in Mexico over the next five years.
Grupo Elektra S.A. de C.V. sells goods and services through its Elektra, Salinas y Rocha and THE ONE stores, and over the Internet. The company operates nearly 1,000 stores in Mexico and five other countries in Latin America. Stores sell household appliances, furniture and clothing. Its financial services include consumer credit, money transfers, savings accounts and extended warranties.
