Tesco, a British supermarket chain, is developing technology in partnership with Israeli startup Trigo Vision to allow customers to load up shopping bags and exit without putting them through a cashier checkout experience, according to a Yahoo report.
The technology, an effort to compete against Amazon, includes AI-powered cameras and shelf sensors that detect what customers pull from shelves.
Customers add payment information into an app or use screens displaying a running bill so that they can pay before leaving the store.
Trigo Vision has $7 million in seed funding from Hetz Ventures and Vertex Ventures Israel and has also partnered with Shufersal, Israel's largest supermarket chain.
Tesco plans to open an automated store in London.
