Tesco piloting virtual grocery kiosks at Gatwick Airport

August 7, 2012

U.K. retail giant Tesco has announced that it will soon begin the pilot deployment of a "virtual grocery shopping" kiosk in London's Gatwick Airport, according to travel website comparecarhire.co.uk.

According to Tesco officials, the idea behind the pilot is to target travellers who realize that their refrigerator at home is either missing something or contains something that will have expired by the time they get back home.

The interactive grocery kiosks will allow passengers in the airport's departure area to shop via a video screen by scanning it with their smartphone and have the products waiting for them when they get home.
