Target uses gift registry kiosks for product recall, safety alerts

December 18, 2008

WASHINGTON — Target stores nationwide have started using kiosks to alert customers of product recalls.

According to a news release, the retail chain is posting signs throughout its stores that direct shoppers to gift registry kiosks near the guest service desk to learn about recalled products.

Through the kiosk system, customers will have easy access to notices of new or past recalls for all product categories. They also can print copies of safety notices.

Target will continue to post safety and recall information at Target.com, provide links to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (and related Web sites, and send emails to guests who have purchased recalled products online.

By logging on towww.cpsc.gov/cpsclist.aspxconsumers can tailor the type of e-mail notification they prefer, based on product type, such as household products or infant/child products.

To further increase awareness of recalls, Target has introduced a new process for eligible Target REDcard account holders, which provides recorded phone messages for guests who purchase an item that has been recalled.
