Taco Bell said today that beginning March 12, it will add a "Veggie Mode" feature that once again plays up the brand's established connection with vegetarian QSR diners. The brand said the new feature is intended to operate like "airplane mode" on a mobile phone, allowing users to use a single "swipe" of a new green icon on self-service ordering kiosks nationwide to unlock nearly 50 American Vegetarian Association-certified items to ease ordering of items on its menu that don't include any animal flesh.
The brand said that "many of the unlocked menu items" haven't been featured on its menu until now, a Black Bean Chalupa Supreme. Similarly, Taco Bell has also expanded its amount of AVA-certified ingredients, which now puts items like the Spicy Potato Soft Taco on the vegetarian's choices list, since it is now certified vegetarian.
Similarly, customers can still customize orders while in Veggie Mode, with what the release said is a total of more than 20 million possible vegetarian menu combinations at their fingertips.
