CHICAGO - Symbol Technologies Inc. introduced its latest self-service price verification product for retailers at the Retail Systems 2001 trade show. The Holtsville, N.Y.-based company's MicroKiosk MK 1000 helps retail customers get up-to-date pricing information without the assistance of a store employee.
Customers will be able to place an item next to a bar code scanner and instantly read pricing information on an LCD screen. The MicroKiosk can be placed in numerous locations throughout a retail store, and connects to the store's host server. It also displays text messages.
In-store personnel can use the MicroKiosk to check inventory status or item locations. The compact scanner is designed to be wall-mounted. It weighs just three pounds and measures 11.4 inches by 7.75 inches by 4.25 inches.
Symbol (NYSE: SBL) provides mobile data transaction systems throughout the world. Its net income for the most recent quarter, ended March 31, was $27.9 million.
