Students craft kiosk to help homeless find shelters

Bowie State University students appeared at the U.S. Capitol Building to display their kiosk, which displays information on homeless shelters.

Students from Bowie State University in Prince George's County, Maryland, were invited to the U.S. Capitol Building showcase their new informational kiosk. This kiosk allows homeless to look up information on the shelters in their area, according to areport by The Tifton Gazette.

The kiosk was designed specifically to accommodate the needs of communities in Prince George's County. It provides real-time information about shelters and their resources such as beds, food and clothing. The kiosk was displayed in a showcase for historically black colleges and universities at the Capitol Hill Maker Faire.

Dr. Courtney Smith Lamar, assistant professor of computer science at Bowie State University, helped direct the development of the kiosk. She praised her students for "developing something that is going to positively impact the community using many of the skills and technologies that they use in their coursework."
