Small devices plays big role in Bluetooth use

July 29, 2003

LAUREL, Md. -- Etenna Corp., an antenna developer for commercial wireless applications, announced that its EA2400 AccuWave antenna is an integral part of the new USB Bluetooth Adaptor from Actiontec Electronics.

Actiontec Electronics is a supplier of analog and broadband devices designed to facilitate Internet access, according to a news report on NACS Online.

The Bluetooth adaptor enables any PC, laptop or notebook computer with a USB port to communicate wirelessly with any Bluetooth v1.1-compatible device, including printers, PDAs, mobile phones, keyboards and mice.

"We couldn't have created this small of a USB Bluetooth adaptor without the unique form factor and superior performance provided by the Etenna AccuWave antenna," said Actiontec's vice president of OEM sales Ramzi Al-Harayeri. "It has helped us to quickly create a tiny, external wireless accessory that delivers plug-and-play Bluetooth connectivity to the thousands of computers that lack wireless connections today."

Actiontec's USB Bluetooth Adaptor can communicate with up to seven Bluetooth-enabled devices in a 33-foot range, eliminating cable clutter on the desktop as well as facilitating computing on the road, according to the release. It will be available in early August.
