Singapore vending machine feeds bookworms

June 6, 2016

Singapore bookstore BooksActually is deploying book-vending kiosks around the city-state. According to a report by Mashable, the kiosks hold up to 150 books apiece. Currently, the machines accept only cash, though additional payment options are in the works.

To date, the bookstore has deployed two book-vending machines — one at the National Museum of Singapore and the other at the Singapore Visitor Centre — and has plans to deploy a third kiosk later this month at the Goodman Arts Centre.

BooksActually owner Kenny Leck said he was inspired by Peguin Book's 1937 vending machine, the Penguincubator. Leck isn't overly concerned about sales; he mainly wants to promote local literature and reading.
