Self-checkout gains traction in U.K.

ePaynews: Self-checkouts are moving up U.K. retailers' priority lists, with grocery chain Tesco now operating units in about 285 stores and Asda expecting to have self-checkouts in 225 stores by end-2006. Another retailer, Marks & Spencer is expected to spend $782 million on modernizing its stores, with self-checkouts taking some of this budget.
