Self-checkout driving Europe's POS market growth

ePaynews: New self-checkout and loyalty programs at supermarkets and hypermarkets in Europe and the MEA region drove a 4 percent growth in the POS market in 2005, according to IHL Consulting. Retailers' moves to upgrade their POS infrastructures for new services and programs ensured continued POS-terminal market growth in a region that otherwise would have been hit by slowing economies. In 2005, hypermarkets and supercenters added more than 200,000 new POS terminals to their existing estates, which kept shipment volumes stable and paved the way for new growth.
