SeePoint Technology has partnered with Oxnard, Calif.-based Court Video Conferencing Services to provide custom-built kiosks for an ongoing deployment of the CourtCall software platform in departments of corrections locations in the southeast U.S., according to a press release.
The kiosks are configured with fingerprint scanners that help the DOC positively identify an offender, then allows them to use the CourtCall platform to conduct online meetings.
CourtCall is a browser-based solution that provides a secure video and audio connection between the DOC, jails, hospitals, parole boards and the courts.
CourtCall's built-in features include DocuSign and document sharing as well as the ability to put participants into virtual private rooms and easily add or remove remote participants as needed.
The kiosks have already been deployed in four DOC facilities.
"Transportation costs between DOC facilities and local jails, courts and hospitals are enormous, and an offender's best chance of escape or smuggling in illegal contraband comes from being transported back and forth to the various facilities outside the DOC," CVCS founder and CEO Robert Godinez said in the press release.
"By using CourtCall with SeePoint's kiosks we are enabling facilities to avoid having to transport offenders," Godinez said. "As a result, they are able to reduce costs while at the same time protecting the community."
CVCS purchased SeePoint's VantagePoint kiosk for the DOC project.
The 17.5-inch deep kiosk features a 24-inch touchscreen and has been modified to add a camera that is secured in a steel housing on top of the kiosk. It also includes an integrated biometric device and a signature pad. All peripherals are secured with steel brackets and there are no exposed cables or ports that an inmate could damage.
"The VantagePoint kiosk offers all the functionality and features of a traditional cabinet kiosk with a revolutionary slim profile," said Jeff Goldstein, vice president of sales at SeePoint. "The VantagePoint's rugged nature and tightly integrated peripherals are perfect for correction facilities, and we look forward to working with CVCS to bring this project nationwide."
Powered by a Dell small form factor computer, the VantagePoint kiosk provides multimedia computing for an interactive experience as well as uptime and availability of critical kiosk applications, the press release said.
The VantagePoint also features a Medeco lock with key retention for field maintenance. Details include a front access service door, interior pull-out tray, interior lighting and a secure bracket for the kiosk's PC/media player.
The VantagePoint is ADA compliant and is made from steel powder-coated black. The kiosks also include a three-year onsite support warranty and are shipped fully assembled so they are plug-and-play.
