SeePoint LLC has launched its VantagePoint Print kiosks for the city of Richmond, Virginia, as part of the city's efforts to upgrade its infrastructure, the company said.

Richmond's recent transportation overhaul called for the installation of more effective means to deliver transit information to the city's commuters and visitors. The Los Angeles, California-based provider of interactive kiosk systems helped Richmond achieve its goal by deploying kiosks to the city's "multimodel transportation center" that provide real-time transport information. The kiosks are located in high-traffic transit areas where visitors can obtain updates on bus, taxi and train routes and airport, trip planning and ride-share information.

"We wanted to provide the connectivity from Main Street Station to link in to the Greater Richmond Transit Company, which is our local bus company. We’re also moving the Virginia Welcome Center here [to the Main Street Station], so we will be tying in tourism, so visitors can understand the transit system easily," said Richmond's principal planner for the Department of Economic and Community Development, Viktoria Badger.

The GUI kiosks feature oversized buttons on a 22-inch touchscreen and thermal printers that are locked inside. The footprint is approximately 2 feet deep, with room for signage on the cabinet and overhead spaces. They are made from "vandal-resistant steel," the company said, and no assembly is required.

"We designed the graphic interface to neatly bring together the city's diverse transportation options in one place, and deliver a better experience for commuters and visitors," SeePoint CEO Jonathan Arfin said.
