Sears to use new kiosks to inform customers, employees

December 5, 2002

An in-store kiosk system produced by Univance Communications and NetShift will be used in Sears stores across the United States, according to a NetShift news release.

The system gives employees access to information and simple presentations about cellular technology products that can be used to inform customers.

The system's NetShift Builder 6 application runs on Compaq hardware.

"The simplicity of this application enables associates to quickly move consumers through the (decision-making) stages and come to a quick, in-store conclusion," Bob Gallner, head of NetShift US, said. "The improvement in customer service directly impacts sales."

Employees will use the system to activate new cell phones through controlled Web links to the provider and to store information about the transaction for later reference.

Time sheets, work schedules and online product training sites will be accessed through the system as well.

About 200 kiosks will be installed by the end of the year with almost 200 more planned for next year.
