Roper St. Francis Healthcare debuts Amazon Just Walk Out Cafe

Roper St. Francis Healthcare has launched a cafe and gift shop at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, that uses Amazon's "Just Walk Out" AI technology, according to a Becker's Hospital Review report.
The system allows customers to pay by scanning a credit or debit card, or an employee badge, upon entry and then leave with their purchases without having to stop at a cash register. While other health systems have adopted the technology, Roper St. Francis is the first to implement it in a full-service coffee shop with baristas.
"We're proud to lead the way as the first in the country to introduce this technology for a full-service coffee shop and gift store experience," Charles Fletcher, vice president of construction, real estate and support services at Roper St. Francis, said in a press release.
