Bitcoin and cash dispensing provider Robocoin announced today a partnership with Fujitsu to incorporate Fujitsu's PalmSecure biometrics into Robocoin kiosks. PalmSecure is designed to provide Robocoin customers greater protection from theft and fraud. The kiosks will require a user's phone, PIN and palm vein to verify identity. Robocoin users can create an account within a few minutes and receive instant access at branches and kiosks; indenfitication takes less than one second, the company said.
PalmSecure technology relies on near-infrared light to identify a customer's palm vein pattern. Authentication is delivered without skin contact, a hygienic process unrestricted by skin types and conditions, the company said. Palm patterns can be matched against the palms of other users.
"We thoroughly researched other forms of authentication, including other biometric technologies, but determined that Fujitsu’s PalmSecure technology met our requirements for 100-percent successful enrollment and speed of authentication at point of service," Robocoin CEO Jordan Kelley said in the announcement. "PalmSecure technology for authentication also projects, and is consistent with, the image we want to project as an innovative company providing world-class services to our accountholders."
Kelley will be a keynote speaker at the ATM & Mobile Summit at Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., this Thursday, Sept. 11, from 8:40 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The keynote, entitled "Where are we going with the convergence of virtual currency, ATMs and Mobile Payments?" will address the future of virtual currencies and the role Bitcoin ATMs will play in the innovation of cash machines, the Summit's website said.
