Now, college students will be able to earn rewards by recycling via Tomra Systems ASA's reverse vending kiosk, according to a reportby Waste 360. The company plans to deploy kiosks in eight universities throughout the U.S.
The kiosks feature a 10-inch touchscreen where students can enter their email address to link to an Internet rewards account with Greenbean, Tomra's incentive program. Students can earn points to use for various rewards, including gift cards and reusable grocery bags. In addition, in participating states, students can earn money in their PayPal accounts for depositing bottles or cans.
"Greenbean is an innovative loyalty program that rewards students for recycling. It offers personalized incentives to drive engagement, and can even facilitate on-campus contests to generate excitement about recycling and other sustainability topics," said Ryan Drake-Lee, director of strategy and commercial software at Tomra.
The kiosks will be deployed in student centers and other high traffic areas throughout the eight universities, which include Harvard University, Brandeis University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Merrimack College, Bentley University, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Southern Indiana.
