Retail Systems 2001: back to bricks

March 25, 2002

More than 5,000 attendees and 350 exhibitors are expected to attend the Retail Systems 2001 trade show June 25 to June 28 in Chicago's McCormick Lakeside Center.

This year's presentations are geared toward helping retailers integrate e-commerce and brick-and-mortar technologies, improve their competitive position, and increase profits.

Morgan Devlin, marketing communications manager for show organizer MoonWatch Media, said, "Every year we redesign the conference from scratch and tailor it to the interests and challenges of the retail industry. The underlying theme of the whole show this year is getting back to the basics of retailing--coming down from the e-commerce craze and getting back to the fundamentals that can be learned from traditional brick and mortar companies."

Kiosk exhibitors include Continuum Technology Corp., Compaq Computer Corp., Cybertotems Technologies, Info Touch Technologies Corp., Netkey, NCR Corp. and Wincor Nixdorf. Info Touch will be demonstrating its Surfnet software.

The Retail Systems 2001 Web site features a new Attendee Planner, which lists exhibitors and lets users schedule sessions, events, and meetings.

Retail Systems' TechTours program, now in its third year, helps attendees reduce time spent researching technology by giving focused product tours at the exhibit floor. Tours include a marketplace and technology overview and visits with select exhibitors within a product category. Categories include POS technology, wireless technology, supply chain business intelligence, customer relationship management, and in-store marketing systems.

High powered conference sponsors include Microsoft, Intel, Epson, Oracle and more than 25 other companies.

Retail Systems began in 1989 at Dallas' Informart. Last year, the show had 4518 registered attendees and 380 exhibitors.

[Editor's note: Info Touch Technologies became Tio Networks in April 2006.]
