RadioShack rolls into Blockbuster

April 7, 2002

DALLAS - Seeking to lure more customers into its stores and offer more products, Blockbuster Inc. announced plans to open retail kiosks and sales counters from RadioShack in 130 of its video rental stores this year.

The two-stores-in-one concept will provide customers with access to RadioShack products like cell phones and service, satellite-TV systems, audio gear, Internet service and home electronics. RadioShack Corp. will pay Blockbuster an undisclosed license fee for each store and share the proceeds, according to both companies. Blockbuster is the nation's largest video rental chain.

The companies hope to expand the concept next year to a large percentage of Blockbuster's 7,700 U.S. stores. RadioShack has 7,100 stores and dealers.
