Portugal's Lisbon Int'l Airport gets passport verification kiosks

November 7, 2013

Vision-Box S.A., providers of automated border control systems and electronic identity solutions, has installed its Automated Border Control eGate, vb i-match 5, in the new arrivals and departures terminal at Lisbon International Airport in Portugal.

The Automated Border Control eGates are divided between arrivals and departures and feature an integrated two-step border control process. First, verification of the travel document is performed while the traveler is still outside the eGate. Once inside the eGate, a facial recognition scan then takes place. If all validations are successful, the passengers are allowed to pass through.

In addition to electronic passport verification, the ABC eGates can process the Portuguese National Citizen Card and the non-electronic passport, in conjunction with pilot projects implemented for Brazilian and Angolan nationals, and holders of Diplomatic or Special Passports.

"The new ABC eGates will allow us to optimize and streamline the border crossing process while maintaining the same level of security and border integrity," said Manuel Palos, national director of the Portuguese Immigration and Border Service.
