NEW YORK-The sharp decline of camera film sales has photo kiosk usage going gangbusters.
According to The New York Times, the number of prints made in January at self-service kiosks in photo stores skyrocketed 535 percent compared with a year before.
Gary Pageau, a spokesman for the Photo Marketing Association, told the Times that within three years, digital prints made by photofinishers will likely overtake home printing.
"A big challenge for the industry is just to get people to print their digital pictures," Pageau said. "Any printing is better than no printing."
The newspaper also reported that the number of rolls of film developed in the United States in 2003 fell by 6 percent, the third consecutive year of declines.
