Photo, check-cashing, kiosk design companies some to display at The Self-Service & Kiosk Show

September 12, 2005

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Demand for self-service technology touches virtually every industry. Attendees from the retail, hospitality, financial services industries and beyond will test-drive self-service systems exhibited by the industry's leaders in development, installation and design at the upcoming Self-Service & Kiosk Show in San Francisco.

The show, Oct. 17-18 at the South San Francisco Conference Center, provides business leaders across a spectrum of industries with hands-on opportunities to try out self-service systems and to learn about the merits of implementing self-service programs to increase sales and decrease personnel cost.

Exhibiting companies are beginning to announce the technology they'll display, including:

Buena Park, Calif.-based Noritsu America Corp., the world's largest manufacturer of photo processing and digital imaging systems, will display CT-X, its next-generation photo kiosk software. The software allows customers to print enlargements, finesse their digital photos with red eye reduction and to create specialty prints with holiday- and event-related photo templates. Fully-customizable, the software is designed for retail environments of all sizes and photofinishing volumes.

CT-X Photo Kiosk Software works on Noritsu's CT-Kiosk. The kiosk can stand alone for dye-sublimation print-on-demand needs, or it can become an order-taking device connected to a wet or dry digital minilab. Noritsu is the only manufacturer in the photo industry that makes the "dry" inkjet minilab, which eliminates the need for chemicals or disposing of waste solutions.

"Whether you're new to photofinishing or have years of experience, Noritsu can supply a complete solution, from equipment and software to service and support," said Gregory Joe, Noritsu's marketing manager. "Stop by our booth. We can show you how profitable photofinishing can be."

Public-access self-service systems provider friendlyway of San Francisco provides kiosks and digital signage solutions that support targeted marketing programs at points of sale, service, and information. It will exhibit its Impress combination digital signage/kiosk and its screen segmentation software, Composer, which enables multiple medias to share one screen, as well as five other kiosks.

"The big new product for us will be our Impress. It makes a powerful statement and shows the convergence of self-service and digital signage," said friendlyway president Alexander von Welczeck. In addition, "We will show off our strong partnerships."

An anchor exhibitor, friendlyway will share its booth with partners Willets, Calif.-based kiosk enclosure designer and manufacturer METALfx and Japan-based integrated network provider NEC. METALfx manufactures for friendlyway and NEC's digital display division provides kiosk signage for the company.

Tranax Technologies Inc. of Fremont, Calif., plans to exhibit several products at the show, including its check-cashing self-service terminal, ticketing self-service terminal, coin ATM and transactional kiosk.

"Tranax has created a range of new products and solutions that deliver truly self-service functionality for a wide range of applications. These new products include both cash dispensing and non-cash dispensing terminals," said Scott Holt, product manager for self-service products at Tranax.

Tranax's check-cashing terminal uses the latest imaging technology and real-time funds verification and approval to cash a range of check types. The ticketing terminal achieves ATM/kiosk convergence by combining traditional ATM functionality with technology that can dispense movie, amusement park, ski resort or sporting event tickets. The coin ATM automates coin exchange, coin sorting and coin/cash dispensing; Tranax's modular transactional kiosk provides the hardware and software for self-service applications such as couponing, bill payment, instant-issue card dispensing and money order printing.

The diversity of companies like these and the range of offerings make The Self-Service & Kiosk Show unique to attendees.

"This is the largest annual event dedicated to end markets," said Greg Swistak, kiosks.org association executive director and Self-Service & Kiosk Show organizer. "Visitors to the show are exposed to many trends and technologies. Anyone who is interested in implementing self-service will benefit greatly from attending this program."
