Pan-Oston launches 'Cash for Clunkers' self-checkout program

November 19, 2009

Bowling Green, Ky.-based Pan-Oston, a manufacturer of retail counter and checkout solutions, has announced the "Cash for Clunkers" self-checkout trade-in program. According to the company, the program is designed as a solution for retailers whose self-checkout terminals have been identified as "end-of-life."

In a news release, Pan-Oston says many retailers are facing that issue:

There are approximately 20 models from IBM, NCR and Fujitsu that have been identified as end-of-life, placing the retailers using these models in a tough situation, with respect to hardware and software maintenance, as well as troubleshooting.

The company says retailers who have a working with IBM, NCR or Fujitsu self-checkout lanes that is on the "end-of-life list" and choose to replace the terminals with terminals from Pan-Oston's Utopia Innovation or Utopia Modular families will receive a $2,000 trade-in per lane. The company also says it will remove and dispose of the discarded self-checkout terminals, helping the retailers cut costs and reduce their carbon footprints.
