Overdrive writes new chapter in retail kiosk services

March 19, 2002

CLEVELAND - OverDrive Inc., a Cleveland-based company specializing in technology and services for the distribution of digital content, has created a new software system for marketing a variety of digital-based media via computers and the Internet.

Called Digital Kiosk, the software package created what the company calls an online vending machine. The system creates a home page, shopping cart, real-time credit card processing, secure hosting, and full-time technical support.

The system can be downloaded on a computer with a keyboard and placed in a retail location. Using the system, customers can purchase and download products - including eBooks, audio books, music, and digital media - directly to their personal computers and personal digital assistants.

Digital Kiosk costs $4,995 to set up for one year; annual renewals cost $1,000. Retailers who sell their own content through the system will receive 75 percent of sales; resellers will earn 20 percent of sales.
