NRT acquires Opal assets

NRT Technology Corp., a global supplier of cash-handling solutions and financial transaction processing for the gaming, retail and lottery industries, has purchased the strategic assets from Opal Manufacturing Ltd. Opal has been designing and manufacturing vending solutions for more than 70 years and provides prepaid telecom products, transit ticket dispensing, Postal booklet vending, prepaid debit card vending, PIN Vending, Prepaid IP access, and self-service bill pay applications, according to a company press release.

The acquisition gives NRT access to the niche mobile top-up and SIM card vending markets, according to John Dominelli, CEO of NRT.

"We're very excited about the prospect of leveraging NRT's expertise in the areas of financial transaction processing and kiosk manufacturing to supplement Opal's products and offer new and exciting functionality to Opal's customers," he said in the release. "We have spoken with several Opal customers about the type of innovation NRT will bring to the table, such as the ability to accept debit and credit at the kiosk and provision of ATM functionality, and they are all very excited about the opportunities this will create for their businesses."
