North Carolina city deploys check-in kiosk

The solution is designed to reduce waiting time and improve customer service by providing wayfinding services.

February 24, 2016

Lexington, North Carolina, has deployed a new check-in kiosk system at its City Hall. The kiosk is designed to allow users to select which department they need to visit and then receive a numbered ticket, according to a report by The-Dispatch.

The kiosk was designed by Qmatic Technologies of America, and its primary purpose is to reduce wait times and improve customer service by directing the customer to the right area and representative.

"Sometimes the lines between the city and the county can get blurred," said Terra Greene, assistant city manager of Lexington. "Sometimes visitors come to City Hall when they need to be at the courthouse or they need a building permit. This system has maps to different buildings such as the courthouse or the police station and can direct them to where they need to go."

This kiosk is part of the top 10 goals of the city to improve services while being financially stable. "We want the customer service experience at City Hall to be all inclusive," Greene said. "We wanted to leverage this new technology to make it more receptive, more user friendly. We want our customers to get to the right representative and the right service in a timely manner."
