Nielsen: kiosks, self-service play role in coupon renaissance

May 7, 2010

A research paper from the Nielsen Companyreports that coupon use boomed in 2009, with the Internet redemption segment of the coupon market growing by 263 percent that year.

The report notes that while 89 percent of coupons are still distributed via newspaper inserts, coupons delivered by self-service deployments and digital promotions – both supported by the kiosk industry – each grew by more than 30 percent.

An analysis this week by the Wall Street Journalof the report suggests that retailers' adoption of self-service, online and mobile-based platforms contributed to the boost.
