New York to replace all MetroCard machines with OMNY vending machines

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will replace the MetroCard machines in New York City subways with One Metro New York vending machines, according to a Yahoo News report.

The OMNY machines, a contactless fare payment system, allow commuters to use a smartphone or wearable device or to tap a credit or debit card at subway turnstiles, buses and AutoGates to pay fares.

The OMNY machines are already available at 472 subway stations and buses. The installations began in 2019.
