New driver's license kiosk pulls into University of Tennessee campus

April 11, 2014

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced Thursday it has installed a self-service driver's license kiosk at the University of Tennessee campus, according to WATE Channel 6 in Knoxville, Tenn.

The kiosk was installed in the campus's Thompson-Boling Arena, and members of the general public also can access the machine, which allows Tennesseans to replace or renew an existing driver's license or state ID card. The kiosk takes a photo and then verifies the person's against his or her image on record using facial verification. It processes credit card payment and prints an interim license valid for 20 days, and the person's new secure license or ID card is mailed to the applicant's home.
