NCR intros touchscreen POS workstation

October 7, 2003

DAYTON, Ohio -- NCR Corp. introduced the NCR RealPOS 70, what the vendor is touting as the industry's first touchscreen point-of-sale workstation.

"Hospitality and convenience-store executives tell us that total cost of ownership is paramount as they chart their future POS strategy," said Pete Bartolotta, NCR vice president of retail solutions product management .

"We previewed the NCR RealPOS 70 with dozens of retailers and foodservice operators over the past six months. They confirmed that this product hits the mark: a stable POS platform that is easy to upgrade and service, with the real-world reliability and performance NCR has provided for nearly 120 years."

Stewart's Shops, operator of 300-plus convenience stores in upstate New York and Vermont, recently signed an order to install the NCR RealPOS 70 chainwide. Uno Restaurant Holdings Corp., operator and franchisor of 200 Uno Chicago Grill locations, is planning to pilot the system this month.

The NCR RealPOS 70 is built around Intel's EmbeddedATX specification, providing a stable POS platform and extended lifecycle through the use of an industry-standard motherboard design. An additional benefit is that retailers can upgrade their POS terminals by simply replacing the motherboard rather than buying all new hardware.

The NCR RealPOS 70 is a multi-purpose system. It can double as a kiosk or interactive-training device. In addition, the base of the workstation can be configured for wall mounting, and an attachment on the back allows for additional customer displays or promotional signage.
