As part of a public health initiative to combat the opioid crisis, Cook County, Illinois has installed Narcan vending machines in various county facilities, according to a WBBM report.

Narcan, a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses, is accessible to the public at no cost. The vending machines have been placed in locations where they are most needed, including Cook County Health sites, the Cook County Jail and courthouses. Jordan Boulger, with the Cook County Adult Probation Department, emphasized the importance of eliminating barriers to access for communities that have been disproportionately affected by the opioid epidemic.

Dr. LaMar Hasbrouc, at the Cook County Department of Public Health, echoed the sentiment, telling the news outlet, "It's about allowing them to live another day. Another day to be able to continue their journey towards recovery."
