Motor vehicle transaction kiosk use increases in Arizona

April 7, 2017

Transactions at motor vehicle transaction kiosks increased across Arizona from 21,991 in February last year to 36,899 the same month this year, the Daily Miner reported.

Fifty-one percent of all transactions done at the Motor Vehicle Division Office in Kingman, Arizona can be completed at the self-serve kiosk or the department's online portal, ServiceArizona.com, said Douglas Nick, spokesman for the MVD.

The most popular kiosk transaction is vehicle registration renewal, according to an Arizona Department of Transportation press release.

Customers can take their vehicle registration notice and scan the bar code into the kiosk, then pay with either a credit or debit card, Nick said.

Getting a duplicate driver license or ID, change of address and specialty plates are all functions the kiosk can perform without the help of a customer service representative, according to a news release.

When a customer enters the MVD, a greeter will suggest he or she use the kiosk if it can perform the transaction, Nick said.

"Kiosks are ideal in environments like this," said Frank Olea, CEO of Olea Kiosks, which manufactures the self-service units for Arizona. "Governmental agencies are always looking for ways to be more efficient and to provide a better user-experience. Citizens like them because they simplify and expedite the transactions. No one says, 'Gosh, I can’t wait to go to the DMV today.' But with kiosks, they can be in and out much faster and with less hassle."
