WALLINGFORD, Conn. -- Four Northeast MotoPhoto franchisees have installed Sony's PictureStation kiosks to expand printing options for digital camera customers.
The stores -- in Hamden and Cheshire, Conn., Brookline, Mass., and Albany, N.Y. -- put the systems in place this summer, according to a MotoPhoto news release. The stores represent one-fifth of the MotoPhoto franchisees in the region, which includes New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
"(Customers) appreciate the instant gratification aspect of walking into a store and getting high-quality prints in a matter of minutes from a name they trust," said Daniel Green, MotoPhoto's franchise business consultant in the Northeast.
The PictureStation kiosks -- available as a counter-top or freestanding unit -- feature high-speed digital printers that produce photo-like prints. The kiosks accept a wide range of digital media, according to the release, and can print in four borderless sizes: 3-1/2 x 5, 4 x 6, 5 x 7 and wallets.
Green said the kiosk's $8,000 price tag makes it a low-cost, attractive option for franchisees to enter the digital photofinishing market.
"The systems scream digital, and that's what we need to be doing to differentiate ourselves in the marketplace," Green said.
