April 25, 2016

Money transfer company MoneyGram has announced that it will waive fees for remittances from South America or the U.S. to Ecuador following an April 17 earthquake that devastated parts the country.

In a press release, the company said it will waive fees until May 8 at its kiosks, store locations and website. The MoneyGram Foundation is also collecting donations to support emergency response teams organized by AmeriCares and Save the Children.

"When disaster strikes, getting money to the people in the region is critical for rebuilding," said Pete Ohser, MoneyGram executive vice president of Americas and Europe. "Our focus right now is making it is easy and affordable for family and friends to get financial assistance to those who have been affected."

Users can enter the code 2540 at any kiosk or location to waive the fee. Remittance amounts are limited to $249.99 per transaction.
