MoneyGram, the money transfer and payment service provider, has reached an agreement with the Bank of South Pacific to allow Samoan and Tongan customers to send remittances, according to a press release. These customers will be able to send remittances through a Web portal, kiosk, mobile or at a supporting retailer.

"While we continue to see growth in the economies in Samoa and Tonga, many of the citizens are still dependent on remittances from family members from around the world to help with daily expenses." said Michael Minassian, MoneyGram's senior regional director for Australia and Oceania.

More than $200 million is sent to Samoa and Tonga annually, mainly from Australia, New Zealand and the U.S., according to the release. "We are happy to continue to meet and service the money transfer needs of our customers with the MoneyGram product," said Paul Thornton, general manager of retail, Bank of South Pacific.
