Michigan county puts muni kiosk program on hold

August 2, 2013

A self-service kiosk that Genesee (Mich.) County officials two years ago said "could revolutionize the way residents receive county services is now waiting for its owner to pick it up," according to MLive.com.

A county board leader said the plan to install the self-service kiosks is being delayed while the county addresses other, more-pressing issues. The kiosks were planned to have been used for "everything from collecting taxes to selling dog licenses," the news site said:

County officials said in March 2011 that they planned to fast track the kiosk program, but now (Jamie) Curtis said the plan is in the hands of the county's purchasing department to evaluate how the board should proceed.

The one kiosk the county had delivered was put near an entrance of the Genesee County administration building but never activated.

The kiosk came from EZ Card & Kiosk LLC in 2011, but budget cuts delayed further advances, and county leaders now want to compare the cost of the EZ Card kiosk to other self-service kiosk providers.
