Macomb County, Michigan, jurors will soon be able to get their pay immediately with cash-dispenser kiosks, according to areport by Detroit Free Press. The kiosks will be operational later this month, and will dispense bills when jurors enter their juror ID number and other personal information such as date of birth.
One of the major problems this will fix, according to the report, is the time delay with mailed checks. "I know some people on jury duty, and it took months to get their check," Macomb County juror Pamela Shropshire said in an interview with Detroit Free Press. "They had to call and call, and it finally came."
Macomb officials will be spending around $35,000 in total for the kiosks with an annual operational cost of $6,800. The kiosks will dispense $30 for a full first day and $15 for a half first day. After the first day, the kiosks will dispense $45 for a full day and $25 for a half day.
Currently, multiple counties in Michigan also utilize cash-dispensing kiosks for juror pay including St. Clair County, Oakland and Wayne.
