Miami-Dade officials approve Civiq Smartscapes contract to install Wi-Fi kiosks

January 27, 2017

The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners has approved an agreement with a Massachusetts company to install kiosks with free Wi-Fi near transit stops around Miami-Dade, according to The Miami Herald.

As previously reported by Kiosk Marketplace, the agreement includes free Wi-Fi on all public transit buses and trains.

The first phase of the project will roll out over the next three months, according to a Civiq Smartscapes spokesperson. Civiq Smartscapes is a developer of "smart" communications infrastructure best known for turning old New York City phone booths into high-tech communications stations.

Civiq will install and maintain up to 300 interactive digital "WayPoints," which will include free public Wi-Fi, as well as more than 1,000 Wi-Fi devices in public transit vehicles and 51 additional Wi-Fi devices for transit stations.
