In anticipation of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, happening October 26, Meijer aims to continue its strong momentum in properly disposing of prescription drugs.

The goal of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is to prevent drug misuse, reduce the risk of accidental poisonings and limit the environmental impact of improperly disposed prescription drugs by providing consumers with a safe method to dispose of unused/expired medications.

Meijer began participating in the program in February of 2019 and has since collected nearly 200 tons of unneeded or expired prescription medications, according to a press release.

"At Meijer, every day is drug take back day," Jackie Morse, group vice president of health and pharmacy at Meijer, said in the release.

"Customers can access the kiosks year-round for disposal of over-the-counter and prescription medications, including controlled substances, during normal pharmacy hours. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a reminder of safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs and we'll continue to encourage our customers to take advantage of the program."
