Mayo Clinic shuts down telehealth kiosks

Mayo Clinic Health Systems is packing up the telehealth kiosks at its Austin, Texas, locations.

January 18, 2016

Mayo Clinic Health Systems is packing up the telehealth kiosks at its Austin, Texas, locations. The reason for this development is due to the bankruptcy of HealthSpot, the kiosk's manufacturer, according to a report by Post Bulletin.

HealthSpot recently filed for Chapter 7 liquidation bankruptcy, despite its previous deployments to Rite-Aid pharmacies in Ohio. The company had deployed three telehealth kiosks at Austin Mayo Clinic locations, which allowed more than 12,000 employees and customers to access doctor services remotely.

The kiosks allowed users to get check-ups for minor health issues for a $50 fee, according to the report. In addition to Mayo Clinic, Rite Aid recently pulled the plug on its HealthSpot kiosks
