St. Mary's County Recreation & Parks has completed the rollout of self-service sports equipment rental kiosks at three Maryland parks through a partnership with Rent.Fun, according to a Southern Maryland Chronicle report. Kiosks at Chancellor's Run Regional Park and Lexington Manor Passive Park began operating in mid-August, while a kayak and paddleboard unit at Snow Hill Waterfront Park completed the three-location program. Users access equipment through the Rent.Fun mobile app by scanning a QR code or entering a locker number, then return the gear and upload a photo through the app to confirm the rental.
The kiosks offer equipment tailored to activities at each park. Snow Hill's unit provides solo and tandem kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, with paddles and life jackets included. Rentals cost $25 for up to two hours or $40 for up to four hours. Chancellor's Run offers pickleball and bocce sets for $5 per hour, while the Lexington Manor kiosk provides disc golf sets that include a driver, mid-range and putter disc along with a carrying bag.
County officials said the program is intended to make outdoor recreation more accessible to residents who do not own equipment. By offering gear on demand, the kiosks allow beginners and occasional participants to try activities such as kayaking, pickleball, bocce and disc golf without purchasing their own equipment.
