Following the launch in February 2014 of its first Bitcoin kiosk at Boston's South Station, Liberty Teller has added a second Bitcoin kiosk over the river in Harvard Square, Cambridge.
The second kiosk is located on the second floor of Clover Food Labs at 7 Holyoke Street, Cambridge.
Boston, Massachusetts-based Liberty Teller said the expansion is due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback and strong interest from the public to its first Bitcoin kiosk. "In less than three weeks, over 500 customers have used our Liberty Teller Bitcoin kiosk," Chris Yim, Liberty Teller’s co-founder, said in a statement. "We have received many requests from the Harvard Square community and are pleased to announce the placement of our second machine."
Ayr Muir, CEO and founder of Clover Food Labs, said he was approached by Yim, a fellow MIT grad. "He asked if we would help him out with an experiment to see if a high-traffic fast food restaurant like ours would be a good site for one of the first Bitcoin ATMs in the country," Muir said.
The Liberty Teller kiosks dispense paper wallets with QR code addresses that the customer scans. Money is then inserted into a Liberty Teller kiosk to receive bitcoins in a digital wallet. Customers can also add funds using the Liberty Teller kiosks to existing digital Bitcoin wallets using iOS and Android apps. The bitcoins can be resold or spent at 50,000 merchants that accept bitcoins, Liberty Teller says.
"We believe the Bitcoin network will ultimately provide consumers with lower costs, faster transactions, new applications, and greater access to financial services," Kyle Powers, Liberty Teller's co-founder, said in a statement.
